Dr. Chase offers an unusual home remedy for earache in his encyclopedic work. All you need for this recipe is a large onion and a tobacco leaf. This folk recipe was sent to Dr. Chase by a contributor to his book and Dr. Chase claimed that it had good results.
Folk Medicine for Earache
Slice a large onion and place two slices on both sides of a leaf of tobacco, making a tobacco "sandwich." Wrap this in a wet cloth and heat it up until the onion is thoroughly cooked.
Then press the "sandwich" together to extract as much juice as possible.
Place 2 or 3 drops of the juice into the affected ear. Said to provide instant relief.
This was also mentioned as a home remedy for deafness.
ANOTHER EARACHE REMEDY:
Put a pinch of black pepper onto a cotton ball, tie it with string, dip in sweet oil and place it in the affected ear. Said to give immediate relief.
